The ASTON HISTORY GROUP
Formed in 1994 to research, record and preserve the history of Aston, Cote, Shifford & Chimney, a parish in West Oxfordshire.
We meet in the Fellowship Centre in Cote Road, Aston on the last Thursday of the month at 7:30pm.

Speakers are invited to our monthly meetings to give talks and demonstrations on aspects of local history, these are followed by light refreshments.

Visits are arranged to places of interest, and we also hold an annual social get-together. You can see some of our previous visits on the past visits page.
The annual cost of membership is £12.
We maintain an extensive archive of documents and photographs and continue to research the parish’s history, record memories and preserve our past. If you have any information or photographs which may be of interest we would love to hear from you.
The group holds an extensive collection of books, these are available for members to borrow. We have also published our own local history books, together with a film and an illustrated map. For information and availabilty see Publications.

Aston History Group
Aims
- To promote the study of the local history of the parish.
- To research the history of the civil parish of Aston, Cote, Chimney and Shifford.
- To hold regular meetings which have a history theme.
- To write up research and make it readily available to members of the parish and to other interested parties.
- To collect and make an archive of material relating to the parish.
- To hold a library of books of historical interest for members to use.
The Annual General Meeting
- This will be held in April or May.
- Annual audited accounts will be presented.
- The meeting will elect a committee of eight members.
- From the committee the meeting will elect a chairman, secretary and treasurer.
- Changes to the constitution can only be made at the AGM and must be carried by two thirds of those present.
The Committee
The committee will meet at least four times a year to arrange a programme of meetings and to arrange visits, projects etc. The committee will appoint members to be responsible for the programme, publicity, refreshments, archives and the library. The committee may co-opt up to two extra members.
Finance
The History Group is a non-profit making organisation. Funds will be raised by an annual membership fee which will be decided upon by the committee and confirmed by the annual general meeting. Visitors may pay to attend a particular meeting at a fee to be fixed by the committee. Other funds may be raised for specific projects.
The treasurer will be responsible for issuing membership forms, collecting fees and issuing receipts. The treasurer will also pay any expenses incurred by the group.
Money raised for the history group can not be spent on purposes other than those set out in the aims.
